Severity This graphic
below displays the relative severity of A/H1N1 in the major
infected countries. Data has been adjusted for population
size, so that infection in large and small countries can be
compared easily.
Case Fatality Rate - (Deaths / Cases)
20 August 2009 - "To
date, the CFR attributable to the current H1N1 pandemic has
been estimated at around 0.4%,
based on surveillance data from Mexico and mathematical
modelling [7]. This CFR is higher than that of average
seasonal influenza but remains of the same order of
magnitude. Whether this will change before the expected
epidemic peak in the northern hemisphere in the autumn is
unknown." Institut de Veille Sanitaire, France
Interpreting the graphic below
The tail of each plot begins at the position a week ago,
and the head and name label are at the latest position. The
longer the tail, the greater the change over the week. A
move to the right shows that the rate of fatalities is
growing, to the left shows it is declining. Upwards movement
shows more fatalities per million of population. |
